It's a non Ballast coil for use with Screw-In Leads (Not Push- In Leads).

This function of this coil is to generate the 000's of volts required by your spark plugs, they deteriorate with age and the insulation between the wires inside can breakdown and therefore the coil needs replacing once in a while.
